About This Project

Due to recent changes in social and employment structures, the previously standard and stable life courses in Japanese society have become increasingly uncertain. This project aims to conduct a sociological analysis of individuals’ life courses in 21st-century Japan—including their trajectories in work, family, and social life—and to examine the causes and consequences of disparities within those trajectories. To this end, we follow and further develop the Japanese Life Course Panel Surveys for the Youth and Middle-aged, which had been conducted using paper questionnaires since FY2006, by launching a renewed, web-based version—the Japanese Life Course Panel Survey Plus (JLPS+).

This project is supported by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP25H00386 (FY2025–FY2029).
